The Senior Move Partnership

Just one of the important benefits of retirement living…

Our Senior Move Managers have on more than one occasion entered a client’s home to find the client on the floor, having been there all night unable to contact anyone after a fall. Thankfully on all occasions a strong cup of tea, some proper care, a blanket and reassurance are all that have been required.

According to the NHS website ‘The natural ageing process means that older people have an increased risk of fall. In the UK falls are the most common cause of injury related deaths in the over 75’s.  Around 1 in 3 adults over 65 who live at home will have at least one fall a year and about half of these will have more frequent falls.  Most falls do not result in serious injury.  But there is always the risk that a fall could lead to broken bones, and it can cause the person to lose confidence, become withdrawn and feel as if they have lost their independence’.

Falls prevention is just one of the many reasons why we at the Senior Move Partnership are so supportive of our clients moving into a Retirement Villages/purpose built Retirement Apartments. Falls are minimised as the structure of the building is designed specifically to reduce trip and fall hazards and for safety.

When supporting a client to downsize we always remind of the potential dangers of rugs (especially on the top of a new carpet) and also ill fitting footwear. Little changes can make a big difference and prevent a fall.
