Removing the barriers to moving home

Sometimes older adults can put off a much-needed move because they find that the task of downsizing so complicated and overwhelming that they don’t know where to begin. This anxiety can be a real barrier on the path towards a new home – a new set of circumstances which would be extremely beneficial to many aspects of a client’s later life.

Many clients come us experiencing feelings of loneliness, anxiety, grief and fear.  Often the result of losing a loved one, ill health, frustration with mobility issues or not having anyone to talk to. By making contact they take a positive first step towards moving to a new home and new life.

Our trained, sensitive and experienced Senior Move Managers are able to provide bespoke support to help make a stress – free relocation a reality. We actively ‘hand-hold’ and take away anxieties around all aspects of the move. We know what needs to happen and when.

So how can a later life move reduce a client’s worries? In our experience we find that;

Isolation is reduced – a move to a wonderful retirement village with like-minded individuals gives access to social contact and opportunities.

Mobility issues can be mitigated – a new home with no stairs, with lift access and safe access to bathing removes the fear of falling and the negative consequences that can bring.  Having a physical impairment can be a real stressor, taking up vital energy – having a more appropriate environment means that you can invest that energy back into yourself.

Making a life change after the death of a loved one is so difficult for many – however, being somewhere more appropriate to later life can help reduce the stress of living alone and alleviate the burden of maintenance of a large home and garden.

Anxiety is reduced for some once they have their affairs in order. Planning ahead, downsizing, sorting through possessions, dealing with old paperwork etc enables the person to relax more, knowing they have done what they wanted to do and can enjoy their retirement.

Moving to be near family and friends is a key driver for a later life move.  Having access to help, support, love and fun can all reduce anxiety and worry.
