What is your favourite part of working as a Senior Move Manager?

I love the relief that comes over clients faces when I say “I’m here to help with whatever aspects of the move are causing you stress”. Many of them have children who live no-where near them and knowing they don’t have to do it all themselves is so reassuring to clients and their families. In many ways we are like surrogate children in terms of the support we offer!

What part of your work do you find the hardest?

It can be hard to know which items are more or less significant to a client when you’ve only just met them. But listening is key – picking up on their tone of voice, the stories they tell, and their physical body language when they hold an item can all give you clues that you can then reflect back to them as they make decisions.

What did you do before becoming a Senior Move Manager?

Prior to being a Senior Move Manager, I was a primary school teacher, and way back when, a chemical engineer!

What misconceptions do people have about our work?

I find some people are fearful that we will “just throw everything away” which we absolutely do NOT do! When we take them through the ways we can support them physically and emotionally they are often quite surprised as to the breadth of our work – from technical floor plans to charity collections to assisting with hard choices and decisions.
